+Extract crashes

Postby spudser » Mon Jul 20, 2009 7:27 am

I have tried running +Extract on my laptop (vista) and my PC (XP64).

On the laptop, i get the error message Unhandled Exception @868, offset:38 during the drive scan, before I connect the sky+ HDD
On the PC, +Extract scans the local drives OK, but crashes when I connect the Sky+ drive.

I have tried about 5 or 6 versions of +Extract, but no joy yet

My Sky+ drive is a 1TB Samsung Spinpoint.

I have used Copy+ successfully in the past, but haven't tried it with his drive.

Grateful for any tips / advice.

Regards

Hi Neil

with my laptop, same error with 0307, (before sky disk added). Haven't tried PC yet.

on the error pop-up, there is an option to send an error report, but this is greyed out

The log looks like this...

20.07.2009 11:23:13 Started 0.3.0.7
20.07.2009 11:23:13 Using Windows Management Instrumentation to obtain disk information
20.07.2009 11:23:14 Found logical disk C:
20.07.2009 11:23:15 Found logical disk D:
20.07.2009 11:23:15 Querying disk \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE0
20.07.2009 11:23:15 This disk OEM ID = 'Dell 8.1' - incorrect OEM identifier
20.07.2009 11:23:15 Querying disk \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE1
20.07.2009 11:23:15 This disk OEM ID = ' ' - incorrect OEM identifier
20.07.2009 11:23:15 Found disk(s): 2
20.07.2009 11:24:12 Saving logfile to C:\Users\Craig\Documents\extract_log.txt

The OEM errors could be due to the fact that my original laptop HDD died on me, and i replaced it and rebuilt it with a larger WD drive, (this was done with the dell disks & OS), so I assume it is just a firmware message rather than a fault.

Thanks for the reply :)

You'll have to leave it with me meantime until I can find some time to come up with a plan.

Ignore the OEM incorrect messages for your PC hdd's - its used for determining the real Sky hdd.

99% confident I've just discovered the reason why this happens.

Its because there is a drive with partition information that Windows WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) cannot parse and therefore returns a whole load of nulls. I tested with a spare hdd I had, that has invalid partition info so now correctly handling null info returned by WMI.

I can build a one-off debug version of +Extract for you to test parsing the drives on your system? It will not contain code to extract however. When +Extract correctly finds your Sky hdd and lists the recordings then we're good to go and the next proper release will follow...
