Firstly can I just say the software that you have provided is excellent and much appreciated. I have been an AV fan since the first stereo VHS came out and have been an early adopter of any new equipment as and when I've been able to afford it!!!!!! At present I have a Thompson HD box and a Pace pvr3 Sky+ both of which have become pretty full and as the kids got a PS3 console for Christmas I decided to use your software to extract the FTA programes (about 50% of all the recordings from both boxes) and put them on the main PC so that they can be streamed to the PS3. Everything has been going really well but there are about 30 recordings on the HD box which I can't get the extract software to see even though they play ok on the box and the copy+ software sees and is able to copy them.

The Log File from +extract reads as follows:

Does anybody have any idea what i can do to get these files to work or will i have to copy the recordings in real time via my dvd recorder.
Thanks once again for the software you've produced!!!!!

Hi,

I'm assuming the 30 that are visible in Copy+ but which aren't recognised by +Extract are listed in the Found no extract info for xxxx
Is there any pattern to the ones that are missing?

I've let Neil (+Extract author) know about your post, so he might be along in a moment - unfortunately as you know he's no longer actively developing it. :?

There's also a Copy+ log file in C:\Program Files\Copy+ and you may be able to cross reference with that.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly

I've cross referenced the log files as you suggested and there seems to be no pattern to the files without the extract info. They are spread out across the planner with varying dates channels etc. I replaced the drive in the HD box and deleted all the recordings that I extracted leaving just the problem files and the non FTA recordings. I then let the box carry out a planner rebuild and tried each of the recordings individually to make sure the box still played them. Then removed the drive again and carried out a selective copy to another drive with just the unextractable recordings. I then opened +extract and it displays no info and returns the log file from previous post. Again any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Hi,

That's a strange one. The message 'Found no info...' comes from the population of the structure that holds the JOPA info. Strange because +Extract and Copy+ use the same method (correct me Stuart if I'm wrong) to populate this albeit C# v C++.

Without access to a drive exhibiting this behaviour I can't fix the problem. My professional and family committments are too great on me to spend any time on this for the forseeable future.

Sorry I can't be of assistance at this time.

neildo.

Umm interesting.

Neil is correct that both Copy+ and +Extract share some similarities since I supplied Neil with some details of reading the planner format. However basically they are separately coded, so I can only assume a bug in what Neil has done, as Copy+ seems to be working.

I have refined what I originally did on this since Neil incorporated into +Extract, but don't remember any serious bugs. Obviously it works for the majority of recordings.

The only thing I can suggest as a workaround is to use Copy+ to create a series of XTV backup files containing only one recording each. The STR file you require will be located as a single block at the end of the image file. You would need something to strip away all the junk of the front though. Not that hard to do if you know what you are looking at.

Well, I have sent you a program to take an image of your drive. This will enable Neil and myself to spend a few minutes looking into the issue.
No promises of a fix, but it's better than nothing...

Hi Stuart and Neil,

Thanks to you both for your support with this.
Have used earlier versions of the +Extract software and have found that Version 0.2.7 was able to extract all 30 STR files and Version 0.3.0.1 was able to extract 28 STR files.
I’m having problems running your drive image program at the moment Stuart as when I enter the line FAT2IMG 1 DISK.IMG, it returns ‘FAT2IMG’ is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

C:\CopyPlus>

So I must be doing something wrong somewhere!!!!!

Hopefully if I can get the drive image across to you guys it might provide some insight into what is different with these files and why previous versions work with.them

PS I’m down near Canterbury but travel all over the country with work.

Hi,

I appear to be having the same issues here. If I use +Extract 0.3.0.4 and scan my Sky+ disk I only get one entry come up in the list (the F08B entry). However, if I try 0.2.7 I get them all listed but without any planner information, so just the STR filename and the filesize. So I use copy+ to get the complete planner list which lists all the recordings correctly and then cross reference the str filenames to find out which entries are which in +Extract 0.2.7.

Here is the log from +Extract 0.3.0.4

Unfortunately I couldn't find a way to save the log from the 0.2.7 version.

I've also tried versions 0.3.0.1 & 0.3.0.3 but with both of these versions I get the following error

I realise that there is no more development on this excellent piece of software and that this is unlikely to get resolved. However, someone may be able to come up with something.

Best regards
